Dear Parent/Guardian/Independent Student,

Every year, at the beginning of the year, we notify you of the online applications we use as a division. In addition, this year, your child's teacher or school wants to use Breakout EDU.

What is Breakout EDU?
Breakout EDU helps solve the problem of passive, rote learning by turning lessons into escape‑room style games that make students actively use what they know. In these challenges, students work together to solve puzzles and locks, applying content knowledge while building critical thinking, problem‑solving, collaboration, communication, and confidence. Unlike traditional pen‑and‑paper exercises, Breakout EDU’s engaging physical and digital games are aligned to curriculum goals, and students can even design their own games with the Game Design Studio (powered by Adobe Express), which deepens understanding by requiring them to think through concepts and present them clearly. Teachers can use Breakout EDU to introduce new topics, consolidate learning, or assess understanding across many subjects, giving students a fun, collaborative way to learn and practice skills that improve test readiness and long‑term success.

As a public organization we need to notify you when we intend to collect personal information. In addition, we need to inform you what allows us to collect this information. For Breakout EDU, we are collecting personal information under the Alberta Protection of Privacy Act, SA 2024, c P-28.5, s 4(c) and the Alberta Education Act, SA 2012, c E-0.3, s 33(1).
