Pobble

Notification for the collection and disclosure of personal information

Dear Parent/Guardian/Independent Student,

Every year, at the beginning of the year, we notify you of the online applications we use as a division. In addition, this year, your child's teacher or school wants to use Pobble.

What is Pobble?
Pobble is a teacher-made writing platform that provides daily, ready-to-use prompts and resources to make writing lessons engaging without extra planning. It tackles a common problem: many students find it hard to start and stay motivated with writing, while teachers spend significant time planning. According to Pobble’s own research and product guidance, the platform’s prompts increase pupils’ writing fluency and motivation, help them enjoy writing and develop a positive view of their ability, and support a sense of connection to their learning community. Unlike pen-and-paper alone, Pobble delivers curated, high-quality prompts every day and tools designed to inspire creativity and improve writing outcomes, while freeing teacher time to focus on feedback and support—making writing practice more consistent, fun, and effective.

🔒 How Personal Information is Protected

Based on available documentation, here's what we know about data protection for Pobble:

Security Measures

Gaps
The most sensitive data appears to be student assessment data and socio‑economic indicators, like meal program status. The vendor states breach notification and staff training, but encryption at rest and in transit are not stated. No security certifications are mentioned. Based on available documentation, these safeguards appear weak for the data described.

Data Sharing Practices

Partial
The vendor does not state selling student information. Documentation mentions marketing messages and cookies, but analytics partners and sharing details are not listed. This creates uncertainty about any secondary uses.

Policy Completeness

Good
The documentation does not state encryption in transit or at rest, or any security certifications. A public list of other companies used for processing is not provided. Policy version dates and clear data ownership language are also missing. Documentation indicates data may be stored outside Canada, which means different privacy laws may apply.

Parent & Student Rights

Partial
In the Alberta context, the vendor's policy states a method for parents to access data, and to request corrections. The documentation does not clearly state how long data is kept or how data is destroyed when no longer needed. Based on available documentation, deletion appears to depend on the school’s request.

This assessment is based on the vendor's stated documentation. The school division continues to evaluate these practices.
