Background
The Board believes that when land and buildings become surplus to current and projected needs, effective disposal of these items should be arranged.
Procedures
- Pursuant to existing government legislation and regulation, surplus land and buildings should be disposed of in the best interest of students and the community.
- Surplus land and buildings can be disposed of only with the permission of the Board.
- In determining whether or not a school closed pursuant to the Closure of Schools Regulation, school reserve, municipal and school reserve, or a municipal reserve is surplus to the division's needs, the following criteria will be used:
- Enrolment trends and population projections within the area intended to be served by the school reserve, municipal and school reserve, or municipal reserve,
- Student accommodation and transportation issues,
- Whether a school on the school reserve, municipal and school reserve or municipal reserve is included in the division's capital plan,
- The length of time that the school reserve, municipal and school reserve or municipal reserve has existed and has not been needed by the board,
- Consultation with other boards with respect to their potential need for the school building, school reserve, municipal and school reserve, or municipal reserve,
- Any other criteria the Board considers necessary.
- If the Board is of the opinion that a closed school, school reserve, municipal and school reserve, or municipal reserve is surplus to the division's needs, the Board must provide the Minister with a declaration to that effect.
