Background
The Board maintains a Local Authorities Pension Plan account that is available to eligible support staff for the purpose of saving towards retirement.
Procedures
- Eligible support staff will have access to the Local Authorities Pension Plan.
- For the purposes of this administrative procedure, a normal working year is considered to be a twelve (12) month period. Ten (10) month employees are deemed to work an average of 200 days per school year.
- Participating Employee Groups at Grasslands School Division for purposes of the LAPP are:
- Administration
- Maintenance
- Accounting and Clerical
- Public Works
- Inspection
- Technical
- Foreman and Supervisory
- All twelve (12) month, permanent employees, who are members of the participating employee groups as noted in #3, who work a minimum of 430 hours per year and are included in a Participating Employee Group, MUST participate in the plan.
- All ten (10) month, permanent employees, who are members of the participating employee groups as noted in #3, who work a minimum of 15 hours per week and are included in a Participating Employee Group, MUST participate in the plan.
- Employees who are hired on a temporary basis (there is an end date or event that has been established for the end of employment) are NOT eligible to participate in the plan.
- Eligible employees who commence permanent employment with the Board must successfully complete a one (1) year probationary period as a waiting period prior to becoming members of the plan.
- The Board will inform all employees of their membership status at the time of hire.
- Pensionable and non-pensionable pay types are defined by the Local Authorities Pension Plan Pension Guide. Pensionable pay includes gross basis pay, as well as acting pay, as defined by the Guide.
