Background
The Chief Deputy Superintendent of Schools of Grasslands School Division, when one is appointed, is a member of the senior administrative team with the superintendent, assistant superintendent(s) and associate superintendent business services. He or she is directly responsible to the superintendent, and shall assume responsibility in the absence of the superintendent.
Procedures
Subject to Board Policy, the responsibility and authority for the selection and appointment of the chief deputy superintendent shall rest jointly with the Grasslands Board of Trustees and the superintendent.
The chief deputy superintendent shall be sufficiently informed with respect to all aspects of the school division to assume the functions of the superintendent in his/her absence and to provide counsel to the superintendent.
With the superintendent, assistant superintendent, and associate superintendent business services, the chief deputy superintendent shall ensure that Board Policy and Administrative Procedures are amended as required, and complied with throughout the division.
Within the parameters established by the superintendent, the chief deputy superintendent shall provide professional and ethical leadership in the division.
The specific duties of the chief deputy superintendent shall be determined by the superintendent. These duties shall be confirmed annually in order to best utilize respective strengths of the senior leadership team. Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent as required.
Specific duties of the chief deputy superintendent shall be communicated to division staff, in-school administrators and the Board.
Evaluation of the chief deputy superintendent shall be the responsibility of the superintendent.
