AP-756 — Reimbursement of Moving Expenses

Background

The Board recognizes that, at times, teachers new to the division will be required to relocate to the area of the school division as a result of their employment. Teachers hired on a Probationary, Interim, or Temporary contract basis, may be entitled to reimbursement for their relocation expenses in accordance with the following procedures.

Procedures

  1. New teachers who have accepted employment with the Division and must relocate from another town, city or province, will be reimbursed for their moving expenses up to the limits noted below. This applies to teachers on probationary contracts, and Interim and Temporary teaching contracts for five (5) or more consecutive months. Employees relocating from:

    1. Red Deer and north of Red Deer – actual cost up to one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00).

    2. South of Red Deer, excluding a 110 KM radius around the city of Brooks – actual cost up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).

    3. Other provinces/countries – actual cost up to two thousand dollars ($2,000.00).

  2. The above amounts are payable only once and must be accompanied by receipts for expenses incurred during relocation.

  3. In the event that an employee resigns for personal reasons within one year of the date of relocation, the employee shall be responsible for reimbursing the Division with half the paid relocation allowance.

Procedure:

  1. Staff who have accepted employment with the Division and must relocate from another town, city, or province will be reimbursed for their moving expenses up to the limits below:
    1. Red Deer and north of Red Deer – actual cost up to one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00).
    2. South of Red Deer, excluding a 110KM radius around the city of Brooks – actual cost up to one thousand dollars ($1000.00)
    3. Other provinces/countries – actual cost up to two thousand dollars ($2000.00)
    4. Expenses are payable once and must be accompanied by receipts incurred during relocation. Please attach receipts to this form.
